We all know that the concept of marriage is a pretty big deal in the society, and when one gets to a certain age and is still not married, tongues start wagging!
We've all 'joked' about how African parents forbids their children from having anything to do with the opposite sex, and even avoiding the issue of 'Sex Education' like a plague when their children were young, only to give them endless worries and harassments when they get to a certain age and still not married... especially in the case of the girl-child!
When it comes to the entertainment industry, we've all seen our favourite 'celeb couples' calling it quits and having fights on social media, or even celebrities who actually married non-celebrities but end up dumping their marriages and eventually getting divorces.
Infact, the rate of 'divorce' in the world has increased to an alarming rate over the years that I'm not surprised that people are scared of getting married.
This is a very serious issue and has made so many celebrities shy away from getting married for fear of ending up like their colleagues in the Industry, and I don't really blame them for that!
There are some popular celebrities who have the desire to get married but haven't been able to find the right person for them, while some have given up entirely on the idea of getting married and are instead 'married' to their careers, and I'll quickly talk about some of them below!
1. Empress Njamah
Popular Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah has been in the movie Industry for a while and has featured in numerous Nollywood movies.
When it comes to her dating life, the actress who will be turning 40 in November is popularly known to have been in a relationship with Nigerian artiste, Timaya. But the relationship ended in a controversial manner and became a subject of discussion on social media.
She has revealed so many times in interviews that "she's not bothered about remaining single forever, because her people are enlightened and understands that the ratio of women to men is uneven"...
She went on to state that "celebrity marriages do not last and there isn't really any point in wasting money for a wedding that will not stand the test of time".
2. Don Jazzy
Award-winning record producer, Michael Collins Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy can be considered one of the most eligible bachelors in the entertainment industry!
The Mavin boss who will be turning 38 in November is still not married and doesn't have any woman linked to him.
He has lamented so many times on social media on his inability to find the right woman to marry, and even his fans have joined in the campaign to find a wife for him!
Although he has publicly proclaimed his love for popular singer, Rihanna so many times, and has even posted photoshopped pictures of them together on his social media pages, his fans believe it's all jokes, and we all know that relationship will probably never happen.
Anytime interviewers or fans asks him when he's getting married, he usually replies with "I absolutely have no idea"!
And even though he often cries out about his inability to find a wife on social media, some fans believe he actually doesn't plan on ever getting married!
3. Rita Dominic
The talented and beautiful Rita Dominic needs no introduction!
The award-winning icon has been in the movie Industry for over a decade and has starred in over hundred movies!
The actress who will be turning 45 in July has kept her love life private but one thing for sure is that she's yet to get married and has no child of her own.
Although, she once revealed in an interview that she almost got married to someone but it ended up not happening, and she admitted she was actually happy the marriage didn't happen because there were signs it wouldn't have worked out.
But unlike some celebrities who have given up on the idea and desire to get married, Rita Dominic has stated she's still interested in getting married but has revealed that the odds have always been against her.
4. Olisa Adibua
Olisa Adibua is a popular on air personality and founder of 'The Beat 99.9 FM' and co-founder of 'Storm Records'!
He can be considered one of the most respected and highly requested radio and television executive producers and presenters in Nigeria!
This entertainment mogul will be turning 53 in September and has never been married or even publicly linked with any woman before!
He however revealed in an interview that he's been 'married' to his work for a long time and has gotten used to certain routines.
He went on to state that if he got married now, whoever the woman is, even if it was Mother Theresa, she would have left him by now.
But he concluded by saying that he might eventually get married but he just needs to find a way to structure it and have a personal life, as well as a public life.
5. Genevieve Nnaji
Award-winning actress, director, producer and Nollywood sweetheart, Genevieve Nnaji is unarguably one of the most eligible spinsters in the entertainment industry!
I mean, what man wouldn't want to marry Genny?!
The star who will be turning 41 in May has always been a topic of discussion concerning her marital status and dating life.
But Genevieve has always kept her private life out of the spotlight, stayed away from controversies and focused on her career.
The mother of one who has once been linked to popular singer D'banj after appearing in one of his music video, has once admitted in an interview that she's not involved with anyone and opened up about marriage and why she's taking her time to commit to it.
According to her, "marriage is not something to be rushed into, and even if she gets married, she would want to stay married and not end up getting a divorce"...
She went on to say that she wants to find her soulmate because it'll be easier to stand the disappointments and problems that comes with marriage.
She concluded by saying that she would rather remain single than marry someone whom she's not completely in tune with!
We all know that what works for 'A' might not work for 'B', and when it comes to marriage, we should all have this in mind!
I personally think that some marriages fail because of high expectations and the 'idea' of how a marriage should be!
This is prominent in cases whereby you'll see two people who have been dating for five years or more and actually living happily together, but only to get married and not last up to a year!.. and end up getting a divorce!
So, i think we should lower our expectations on what an 'ideal' marriage should be...
And i also think people shouldn't be coreced, shamed or forced into getting married, and should be allowed to make their own choices about marriage!..
