Wrong communication put doctors, nurses at risk

Some doctors and nurses at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Ondo State, who attended to a patient that later tested positive for COVID-19, are to be isolated.
The Nation gathered that a wrong negative result of the patient made the health officials to continue treatment, and discharged the patient.
They were said to have been alarmed when her result came in and it was positive.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Wale Oke, who confirmed this in a statement, said the patient was attended to between last Friday and Sunday.
He described the error as a communication gap
Oke said: “What happened was a communication gap. Other patients’ results, which were sent except that of the patient, which was not ready as at that morning, came back negative but erroneously put that all FMC Owo patients were negative.
“By the time the result of this woman was communicated later in the evening, which was positive, she had been discharged.
“I want us to remain calm, as contact tracing has begun and efforts are on the way to locate the patient and bring her back.
