Police arraign 3 men for alleged secret cult membership in Lagos
The police on Wednesday arraigned three men in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.
The defendants, Goldie Goldie, 25, Chinonso Chukwuonye,33 and Kelechi Udoeze, 25 whose addresses were not provided, are each facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.
The prosecutor, ASP Rita Mommoh, told the court that Goldie, Chinonso and Kelechi, and others still at large, committed the offences in May at No 11, Layode Street, Olodi in Apapa area of Lagos.
Mommoh said that the defendants and their accomplices, conspired to belong to a secret cult called, “Junior Vikings”.
She alleged that they were caught by a vigilante group taking oath of allegiance to the secret cult and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 42(a) and 411, of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.M. Ajayi granted each of the defendants N250,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Ajayi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos government.
The case was adjourned till Sept. 9 for mention.
