Chelsea have begun preparations for their crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool. The blues will host the defending Champions in the weekend's standout fixture.
The Cobham training facility in Surrey, UK hosted the first team players as they began training ahead of the game. The big news from Cobham is that new signings Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva have returned to training with the rest of the squad. The duo had missed their opening day win at Brighton due to slight injury worries.
Both players trained well and looked sharp all through. Thiago Silva in particular is looking fit and ready to go. It will be a big boost to the defence if they both get to feature against Liverpool. I'm sure they'll be a handful for Liverpool's attackers.
There was no sign of Christian Pulisic or Hakim Ziyech in today's session, but one of them could join before Friday for the final sessions.
I did spot what looked like Matteo Kovacic, but he was facing away from the camera so it's hard to tell if it was really him. He would be another plus if available to face Liverpool as his presence in midfield could serve as a link between defence and attack.
Liverpool do have lots to worry about heading into this game. They shipped 3 goals against new boys Leeds United, with Virgil Van Dyke making an error that led to one of those goals. Trent Alexander was largely quiet during the narrow victory. Klopp has to find a solution quick if they are to avoid embarrassment at Chelsea on Sunday.
The boys at Stamford Bridge would not be too happy with the Liverpool manager following his negative comments regarding Chelsea's summer spending. If allowed, they will be glad to shut him up for good.
It's going to be an interesting game, but I think Frank Lampard's men will be buoyed by the return of the likes of Chilwell and Thiago Silva.
