The outbreak of Coronavirus some months ago brought about the closure of schools in almost every part of the world. Nigeria as a country was not left out of it as schools which include primary, secondary and tertiary institutions were closed in march this year.

In Nigeria, government at various levels have been trying their possible best to making sure that safe resumption of schools at all levels is done as soon as possible. The federal government, state governments, the ministry of education and the Covid-19 task force officials have been putting heads together to plan on how to make sure that necessary steps are taken so that students and teachers would be safe when school resumes.

As tertiary institutions will be resuming gradually, everyone should not forget the safety protocols that we all have been observing since the outbreak of the pandemic. The school authority in all tertiary institutions should make sure that the necessary materials that will fight against the spread of the virus are provided as tertiary institutions are resuming across the country.

One important issue that school authority in all tertiary institutions should find solution to is the issue of some overcrowded lecture halls. Some lecture hall in some tertiary institutions are sometimes overcrowded with students. If the lecture hall is overcrowded, it will make it impossible for students to practice social distancing. As we all know that social distancing is one important way of stopping the spread of Covid-19.

Authority in tertiary institutions should also make sure that they provide water facilities at strategic position of their various schools. If there is adequate water supply in schools it will be very easy for students to wash their hands at regular intervals. Like we know that washing our hands regularly is another way of preventing the spread of Coronavirus.

The regular use of face mask should also be enforced in schools by the authorities of tertiary institutions. As the rate of Covid-19 is reducing, some people are not taking the wearing of face masks seriously again. In other to have a safe learning environments in our tertiary institutions as schools gradually resumes, wearing of face masks by the students must be taken seriously.

As students are eager and preparing to resume academic activities in all our tertiary institutions, the necessary safety measures must be in place to avoid the further spread of the Virus. We should also remember that a clean environment will drive diseases away from us.
