It's no longer news that, the long anticipated Edo elections have turn out to contain some elements of violence. Despite the warning from religious, and political leaders to voters to stay away from violence during the period of the election. But some unfortunate youths have decided to endanger their lives, for politicians who don't even know about their existence.
I think it is high time we begin to look at the other side of Nigeria democracy, which is obviously "Followership". Followership is not exactly the opposite of leadership. It does not connote blind obedience, being a ‘yes man’ or being disingenuous in one’s support of a leader.
I see no reason why someone will engage in electoral violence for his leader, even after that same leader of his have emphasis on the effects of electoral violence. But the funny part is, some people will still find a way to link their act of ignorance, and stupidity to "bad leadership".
At every slight mistake made at any point of governance, Nigerians are quick to blame it on bad leadership. But the truth is, we also have a role to play in the development of this country. Yes, we can't deny the fact that bad leadership is a major problem hindering the development of the country, but on a large ground, it is equally that of Followership because, the morality of every society is determined by the morality of the majority of its people. Where Followership is a failure, not much gets done or what does get done is not what was supposed to be done.
Do you think bad leadership is still the problem of Nigeria?? What do you think about the violence during the Edo election?? Please don't forget to drop your comments.
