Social media especially Twitter was thrown into panic mode with the plea from the family members of Akinnusi Timilehin, a 21-year-old girl who went to the bank on September 9, 2020, and made hard cash withdrawal of 250,000 naira.
According to a Twitter handle @engr_tola, who raised the alarm on Twitter by sharing the pictures of the missing girl, he begged Nigerians on Twitter to help retweet his tweet till it gets to anyone who may have sighted the young woman.
According to his story, on Wednesday 9th September, Akinnusi went to a bank around Oyinbo area of Lagos State, she went alone to withdraw a quarter million without a company despite knowing how dangerous it is for people to carry such amount of money nonchalantly.
During the late hours of Thursday 10th September, Engr_tola who made it known to the public that she was missing earlier, later twitted that the young lady whom he described as his sister was found under a bridge at the Ikosi-Ketu area of Lagos State.
So in my opinion, all Nigerian Women should kindly note this advice as it may save you from possible being kidnapped or even worse, robbed and abused due to women being an easy target for most robbers and touts who hang around banks and markets looking for ladies to cunningly steal from.
In other to avoid this same occurrence happening any other lady out there, please adhere to the following instructions:
1. Never go to the bank alone to withdraw amount ranging from 200,000 upwards.
Reason is just like Akinnusi Timilehin, you maybe unknowingly monitored by robbers and pick pockets disguised as bank's customers waiting for the right and easy target(s) to pick as their victim, and these victims are mostly Women.
2. Never talk to strangers in the bank or ask to borrow pen from the unknown.
I know most people may disagree with this, but an incident that occurred in Aba, Abia State, where a lady innocently borrowed a pen from a stranger, and the last thing she remembered was seeing herself gagged with her hands and legs tied, and abandoned in an uncompleted building.
That was after many days of searching from her family members and friends, she was later found in that uncompleted bound and gagged.
She was rushed to the hospital and when she was able to talk, she was asked what was her ordeal, and she stated that the only thing she remembered was borrowing pen from a stranger in the bank to fill her withdrawal teller, and once the stranger handed her the pen, she blacked out and couldn't remember anything else that followed.
Meanwhile, after recovering and checking her bank balance it was revealed that she herself withdrew the maximum amount allowed in her account, and the money? She couldn't tell where and how it disappeared.
3. Never use public transportation if you're going to be carrying a huge amount of money alone as a woman.
Reason for this is, there's a 100% chance that you can be easily overpowered in public transport by the popular one chance men posing as driver, conductor and passengers.
These men accompanied by women sometimes sit comfortably and innocently like a passenger(s) just like yourself, they dress really well like people coming back from work or appointment that you'll be deceived by their appearance, and once you're onboard the public transport, you're now at their mercy, and they'll easily pounce on you, knock you unconscious and made away with your money.
Never take public transport if you're a lady and you're carrying a huge amount of money, your security cannot be guaranteed, but rather go in the company of a male trusted friend or a family member.
Akinnusi Timilehin is only 21 years old and a young lady, she didn't apply any of the above measures when going to make the withdrawal of 250,000 naira in a bank in Oyinbo axis. The people who did this to her are still on the loose and will be targeting other women which is likely their preferred target.
See some of the reactions when the news about her being found was disclosed:
I hope this article helped to sensitive the public on the precautions to take in other to avoid such incident happening to other women.
Thanks for reading and don't forget to like and share with others.
