The Federal government recently announced palliatives for private schools nationwide. Schools under the umbrella of NAPPS ie National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools keyed into the initiative.
While we commend the federal government for the gesture, some school owners are playing foul. The government wants to pay the money direct to the selected teachers account (10 per school) and sensing that they will not benefit from the fund, some proprietors have decided that they will reap from the proceeds.
A proprietor met his staff and told them that when the money comes, they are to withdraw and bring to the school. The amount paid as salaries during the lockdown would be deducted and the balance shared amongst the staff.
Ask me how much the government wants to pay? #30,000 × 3 months × 10 staff / school. By the time the amount paid is deducted, what remains to be shares is absolutely nothing.
We the private school teachers hereby call on the government to devise other means of assisting teachers directly and not via the school owners.
