A 500-level Chemical Engineering student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Abosede Oyinlola, has emerged the winner of the 60th Independence essay competition organised by the Osun State Government.
The 23-year-old student was rewarded with a laptop, a sum of N300,000 and a plot of land, while Stella Ademuyin of Adeleke University, Ede, who came second, was rewarded with a Laptop, N150,000, Samsung J6 Phone and an Airtel mi-fi.
Another OAU student, Sheriff Adelu, took third place and got a tablet, a sum of N100,000 and Samsung J6 Phone.
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, at the event, re-emphasised the need for governments at all levels to invest in education for sustainable growth and development in society.
Oyetola who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, said the state was ready to initiate programmes and policies that would showcase its potentials while adding value to the citizenry.
The Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Olalekan Badmus, said 20 finalists were shortlisted from the 756 entries for the essay from 40 participating institutions.
