FG Needs $656 MillionTo Complete Lagos-Ibadan Railway - Rotimi Amaechi Says

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has stated the Federal Government requires the sum of $656 million to complete paintings at the Lagos-Ibadan railway undertaking.

Amaechi disclosed this on Friday while protecting his ministry’s 2021 budget at the Senate.

He explained that the quantity is needed to put the necessary infrastructure in vicinity for the challenge to serve its meant cause.

“Some aspects of works regarding the construction of upgraded railway station, signalling and telecommunication structures, strength supply scheme and the development of pedestrian and overpass bridges should be completed,” he said.

“These additional and additional works amounting to $656 million which is to be financed one hundred percent through the Federal Government of Nigeria has been authorized through the Federal Executive Council for implementation.”

The Minister also told the lawmakers that the construction of the task is 92 percent near finishing touch.

He but lamented that the work became disrupted following the #EndSARS protests that shook maximum components of the country.

Amaechi noted that the Ibadan-Kano railway task also required an injection of $645.3million as advance price to allow the Federal Government to complete its loan signing settlement with the China Exim Bank.

According to him, the Ministry might commence the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Port-Harcourt-Maiduguri Eastern Narrow Gauge railways in 2021.
