Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe
The reinstated Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, on Thursday received a rousing welcome as he made his way into the Akoka campus of the university.
The serenity that had pervaded the Senate Building, the seat of administration of the institution, became lively as Ogundipe made his way into the foyer.
The resultant confusion forced the federal government to intervene swiftly by asking both Ogundipe and Babalakin to step aside pending the conclusion of its investigation into the crisis by a panel chaired by a former vice-chancellor, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, Prof. Sa’ad Tukur.Recall that the university had been enmeshed in the controversial removal of Ogundipe as the vice-chancellor by the Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN) led-governing council of the university on August 12.
Ogundipe, whose reinstatement has been contested by Saad, described his return as an act of God and victory for the Nigerian public university system.
Addressing workers and stakeholders at the Senate foyer, the elated Ogundipe, full of praises unto God, particularly expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari; Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu; the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed, workers, students and other publics of the university for standing for the truth, fairness and justice during the crisis.
He charged workers and stakeholders at the university to endeavour, at all times, pursue collective (rather than personal) interests and be more united and committed to further propel the institution to greater heights.
