THE Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has rejected that it agreed with the national government to suspend its continuous strike on December 9, 2020.

The Union demanded that in spite of suggestion with that impact, there was never a comprehension with the public authority that it would suspend the more than 9 months old activity on the said date.

Leader of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi in a proclamation made accessible to newsmen Wednesday night, said ASUU delegates don't have the forces to suspend or cancel modern activity yet should follow fair treatment which incorporates communicating the result of exchanges to individuals and National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU for additional consultations and activities. While noticing that ASUU was eager to help out concerned specialists to guarantee suspension of the strike once the government assistance and prosperity of ASUU individuals and endurance of state funded colleges were adequately ensured, he said It was an unnecessary emergency which had happened in light of the fact that the public authority reliably neglected to dependably execute the Agreements it uninhibitedly endorsed with the association.

In his words: "The initiative of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been immersed with enquiries on why the progressing strike activity has not been suspended. This was continuation of the broadly announced cases by some administration specialists that all the requests of ASUU have been met and that the association consented to suspend the strike activity today, ninth December 2020. Nothing can be farther from reality!

"To set the records on the right track, the Principal Officers and Trustees who comprise the center of agents of ASUU at exchange gatherings with the public authority are not intrinsically enabled to suspend any strike activity. Whatever emerges from a commitment with specialists of the public authority is an offer that should be reclaimed to the branches through the different organs of the association.

"Perspectives and points of view on proposals by governments are totaled and introduced to government specialists as counter-offers. This worker's guild procedure of offer and counter-offer is consistently conveyed until the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU – comprising of every perceived administrator – at long last endorses what it thinks about a satisfactory proposal from the public authority. It is really at that time that any strike activity by ASUU can be suspended.

"The ASUU initiative didn't arrive at any comprehension with the public authority to suspend the strike on ninth December 2020 and there isn't anything in the public authority offer of 27th November 2020 to propose that end as supposedly asserted by the Minister of Labor and Employment.

"The authority of ASUU has reliably expressed at each gathering with high positioning government authorities that the association's agents have no command to take an official conclusion on any strike activity by the association. All the authority does is to introduce government offers through its organs, and that we have done steadfastly in the current circumstance.

"ASUU individuals, as partners in the Nigerian University System, are similarly stressed and humiliated that those in the situation of power, throughout the long term, shown appearing impassion to the decay constantly in Nigeria's state funded colleges. We think it isn't past the point where it is possible to do a reconsider. We accept if there is the will, there will be a way"
