Former England captain Alan Shearer says he would "not be so sure" about Arsenal's chances of Premier League survival at the end of this season.

The Gunners have made their worst start to a season since the 1974-75 campaign and lie 15th in the table.

They have 14 points from 14 games and have lost eight of those matches.

Inquired as to whether they will keep awake, Shearer answered: "I wouldn't be so certain. Not with that beginning group and the disposition of a portion of those players."

The 2-1 annihilation against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday left Mikel Arteta's side four focuses over the assignment zone.

The Gunners have not scored from open play in any of their previous five first class games from home.

Nicolas Pepe, the club's record £72m marking, scored only his second class objective of the period from the punishment spot.

Shearer added on Match of the Day: "Terrible, no inventiveness, players making a halfhearted effort, not buckling down enough and not shutting down.

"Mikel Arteta should be a stressed man depending on that gathering of players attempting to save his work. Twelve objectives throughout the season, they have no alternatives.

"Against Everton, Pepe was not set up to get into the case, he was running, some of the time strolling. He must accomplish more.

"There are a couple of major parts in that group who are not giving everything for the administrator. Stockpile are never going to score objectives playing that way."

Arteta conceded Arsenal "are in a major battle" and the players "hurt at the present time".

The Spaniard added: "We need to produce more to win football matches. With regards to little subtleties, the other group needs it more. The young men are totally as yet battling.

"The manner in which the young men responded in the changing area reveals to me they have the conviction. At the point when you lose bunches of games for various reasons it harms a great deal.

"We must be better, it wasn't about Everton, it was about us."
