LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has told French giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) that they will have to fork out at least €80m if they want to prise Wilfred Ndidi away from the King Power Stadium this summer.
PSG have long been an admirer of Ndidi and last summer, the French club was willing to pay around £45m for the midfielder but Leicester were not interested. Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, has recently taken over as the PSG head coach in a game of musical chairs that saw his predecessor Thomas Tuchel move to Chelsea and is said to be a big fan of Ndidi.
With ambitions to establish themselves as a major European brand with a legacy that matches the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan and Bayern Munich, PSG currently has a world class squad. With players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in its ranks, PSG is looking for a world class anchorman to augment its team.
Ndidi, 24, who had a perfect campaign during the 2019/20 season also came tops with the number of interceptions, making 86 all season. He became the first player to top the English Premier League tackle charts for three consecutive seasons, which has attracted the attention of several big clubs including Manchester United and PSG.
However, Mr Rodgers has ruled out any move for Ndidi, saying the midfielder is irreplaceable. He added that Ndidi provides Leicester City with balance in his midfield holding role.
Mr Rodgers said: “Wilf has been absolutely brilliant since I have been here. He is one of the top players in the world in terms of recovering the ball, his reading of the game is so good and he has quality.”
Big spending PSG are one of the few clubs in Europe that can meet Leicester’s €80m asking price and may well submit a bid in the summer. Since his move from Belgian side Genk four years ago for £15m fee, Ndidi has been quite exceptional for the Foxes being named as Leicester City’s Young Player of the Year in his first season
