The Nigerian Army has said toops of Quick Response Force of 1 Division foiled attempt by bandits to kidnap students of Turkish International Secondary School located in Rigachikun, Kaduna State.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, in a statement on Friday, explained that the troops protected the school.
It stated, “Acting on a tip- off on the impending abduction of the school children, troops quickly mobilized to protect the school from the bandits.
“However, while the troops were securing the secondary school, another distress call came that bandits had stormed the Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area of the state with aim of kidnapping the staff and students. The troops swiftly moved to Afaka and decisively engaged the armed bandits”.
Following the firefight, Yerima explained that the troops had been able to rescue 180 people, comprising 132 male students, forty lady students and eight civilian staff.
“The bandits have been stated to have damaged into the institution through breaching the perimeter fence of the college.
“The rescued students were evacuated to a secure location even as the injured are presently receiving clinical attention at a military facility,” he said.
The navy stated a combined group of Army, Air Force, Police and Department of State Services operatives are presently combing the woodland for the bandits.
