The structure that housed the Salvation Ministry in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State, collapsed, trapping an unknown number of worshippers and resulting in over ten deaths. During Tuesday's evening service, the facility, which was being used for the first time, reportedly collapsed at around 5:55 p.m.
According to Vanguard, roughly eight people were recovered unharmed, while four others were transferred to the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
Chief Patrick Ukah, Secretary to the State Government; Dr. Ononye Mordi, State Commissioner for Health; and a team of Red Cross officials and fire fighters were on the ground on a rescue effort at the time of filing this report.
Worshippers, family members, and sympathizers were spotted crying as rescue attempts continued.
