The Nigerian military, Tuesday, moved in swamp buggies to the besieged Okuoma community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, in continuation of the ongoing razing of the community.
The two swamp buggies, which were off-loaded from trailer-trucks into barges at the Bomadi Police Division waterfront, were transported onward into the creeks.
Recall that, last week, soldiers on a rescue mission were ambushed and killed by youths of Okuoma community, leading to a reprisal attack and consequent burning of houses by the military.
A source, who spoke from a neighbouring community of Okuoma, disclosed that the heavy vehicles were seen transported on barges through their community waterways towards the direction of Okuoma.
“Yes, I saw them passing through our river towards the direction of Okuoma, they’re heavy machines but nobody can tell their mission there”, she said.
However, the chairman Akugbene community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, have been released from detention by men of the military Joint Task Force, JTF, Bomadi Division.
It was gathered that, the community chairman and others, who were detained, yesterday, over the harbouring of the fleeing chairman of Okuoma and other suspects, secured their release after producing the alleged perpetrators under the community’s custody.
More so, the security situation at Bomadi and environs is still tense, as armoured vehicles and men on uniform are seen on strategic locations in the town.
