Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the Nation through a live broadcast. In his speech, he said that there will be an extension of the lockdown for another two weeks. He also mentioned that his government will find a way to help the poor and vulnerable Nigerians as he knew that the majority of Nigerians are suffering as a result of this lockdown. It is on these premises that Nigerians begin to ask; who are the people that fall within these circles of poor and vulnerable Nigerians? And with what means will the government help these poor Nigerians. It is on the above emphasis that Nigerians began to yell on various social media platforms asking the government to pay them via their BVN numbers. Another question that might be of concern is what might likely happen if the government fails to pay Nigerians via their BVN numbers?
Recall that there have been a series of robbery attacks in parts of Lagos and Ogun State respectively. It is reported by the media as one of the massive robbery attacks in the history of Nigeria. Many street boys have diffused the means of moving in mass, taking people’s belongings forcefully. A look at this shows that the people are in abject poverty caused by the lockdown order.
Nobody is safe any longer. If you think you have enough that will sustain you during this period, someone who does not have might be forced to take away the little you have. The rich, the poor, the security agencies and even Mr President are not safe.
What could be done is to find a threshold of a stipulated amount of money. Anyone with cash above this threshold will not receive the payment while those below this threshold will receive the payment made directly into their bank accounts.
