The Federal government of Nigeria in the month of March ordered the closure of the country's economy and other sectors such as religious gathering, schools, airports, bars, interstate movements, markets and so on.
After some agitation from stakeholders and assessments from the presidential task force on COVID-19, President Mohammadu Buhari considered the gradual easing of lockdown and then approved the first and second phase of gradual easing of lockdown. All the above mentioned sectors were allowed to resume activities in the first and second phase of gradual easing of lockdown exempting schools only.
Till date, President Mohammadu Buhari has not approved any date yet for resumption of schools across the country.
Sincerely speaking, Ever since President Mohammadu Buhari approved the gradual easing of lockdown, the spread of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria has become worst. Ever since then Nigeria records almost 300+ confirmed cases daily.
Till date, Nigeria has now recorded over 38,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and over 800 deaths aswell. Despite the number of confirmed cases, the deadly disease is not showing any signs of slowing down.
In my opinion, a nationwide wide lockdown should commence on the 1st of August 2020. I suggest that the few days remaining in the month of July should be used by citizens to prepare for the new Lockdown.
It's very clear that in Nigeria, there's no cure for for coronavirus yet, so the only effective means to reduce the further spread of the deadly coronavirus disease in the country is imposing a new nationwide lockdown.
The picture below shows the states in Nigeria with coronavirus and their number of confirmed cases.
Note, coronavirus is increasing in Nigeria on daily basis, if we continue like this, many citizens will contract the deadly disease and more would be in danger of contracting the virus. I suggest that the Federal government of Nigeria should declear a new lockdown as from 1st of August 2020 so as to help reduce the further spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
What do you think?
Should a nationwide lockdown be imposed or we should continue living in the risk of contracting coronavirus.
