Students Build Toilet For Community School

Build School Toilets To Save Lives And End Poverty - GlobalGiving

Seventeen-year-old Fayobomi Olusola-Falodun and her friend, Chinwe Onyejoeocha, have built a toilet for Edu Agbara Community High School in Agbara, Ogun State.

The students, who both finished from Corona Secondary School, Agbara, in June 2020 are currently studying outside the country.

In an interview with our correspondent, Olusola-Falodun and Onyejoeocha said building the toilet was their way of giving back to society.

Olusola-Falodun said, “The dream was conceived by my friend and I. Living in a country like Nigeria, we see so many other children not being able to have an education; we felt it was the best thing to give back to our society. We’ve always been taught by our parents to always remember where we come from and give back to back to the underprivileged.

“We went to Edu Agbara Community High School, Agbara, with the thought of refurbishing some of their classrooms; but as we were going round the school that day, some teachers told us that they don’t have any toilet in the school. This is a school with over 1,000 students. The teachers told us that the students go to the bush to defecate.”

Onyejoeocha said a mechanism had been put in place to ensure the toilet was well used.

She said the funding for building the toilet was got from friends and families who believed in their dreams.

“We are just trying to say that just because the government isn’t doing well, we have to follow that path. We all have roles to play to improve our community. The power is in our hands, and nothing is small or big to improve our community. The government alone cannot do it,” Onyejoeocha added.
