Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State, says, by politicising insecurity, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government plunged the security troubled states into an unimaginable scale of banditry that may not end soon.
The governor was speaking when he received the Board of Editors of Independent Newspapers Limited, led by the company’s Managing Director and Editor- in -chief, Steve Omanufeme, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.
Governor Wike said when Rivers experienced issues of insecurity in 2015, he ran to the Federal Government but rather than offering support, they dismissed it as politics out of hatred for the State and desire to see the remain ungovernable.
“They didn’t send special forces to Rivers as they’re sending to different states now. They refused to guide me due to the fact they didn’t need the State to be governable.
“Crime is aware of no boundary. It may be you the following day. If they've brought out zeal to combat crime, with seriousness, and collaboration no matter the party you belong to, an awesome end result may be executed.
He in addition brought: “Banditry will by no means stop seeing that they’ve politicised the difficulty of safety. I advised them don’t politicise problems of protection. They’re paying the price. Whatever you sow, you may acquire. If you sow peace you’ll acquire peace, if you sow hassle, trouble will usually be with you.”
The Rivers State Governor said it is tough to fight crime in conditions while cultists are arrested, human beings go to Abuja to inform the Inspector General of Police(IG) and the Chief of Army Staff that the ones arrested are their boys just to steady their release and allow them to off the regulation.
Governor Wike commented on the denials trailing the $1billion Dollar withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account and said it's miles shameful that a government this is combating corruption will condone such, permitting each the cash and the weapons to head missing, unaccounted for.
“Now, the National Security Adviser says the $1billion Dollar they took from our Excess Crude Account with out even paying us our thirteen percent derivation is long gone. They said they’ve no longer seen the weapons.
But this one the National Security Adviser is saying that they misquoted him. I inform you, nobody is misquoting anything. We are conscious that there was no weapon.
“Even the Chief of Army Staff said he didn’t collect money. So wherein did the money go ? This is a government combating corruption and the press isn't always speaking.”
Speaking in addition, Governor Wike berated the Nigeria press for dropping their power of voice to talk fact to authority with vehemence as they did in the course of the management of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“As regards this u . S ., we're where we're due to you (journalists). In 2014, you had been bought over to tug down the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“I had advised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) the other day, and asked then wherein are you that you see things in Nigeria getting worse; lack of confidence, increase in rate of the whole thing and you say not anything.
“Now, you’ll no longer pull down Nigeria again because it isn't a minority guy this is in energy. Where is the voice of the humans? Where is the voice of the reporters? Have your mouth be sealed up, dumped and you may’t communicate again?
“Is it because you’ve seen electricity extra than you? When Jonathan changed into in strength, he reputable fundamental human rights. He allowed freedom of speech.
“Nobody might be arrested but now, you may’t speak because of fear which you’ll be arrested. That’s the scenario we found ourselves. So, once I see journalists nowadays, I’m just shy. But you owe this us of a lots.”
Governor Wike stated if Nigeria become truly a rustic, the former GOC of the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt would were dismissed because of his political involvement all through the 2019 preferred elections. According to him, even the former Chief of Army Staff turned into so uncovered whilst he lobbied the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and attempted to rig the 2019 General Election.
