The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Ambassador Tukur Buratai on Saturday denied diverting funds meant for procurement of arms while in office.

The National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno, had on Friday said that the newly appointed service chiefs did not meet the funds approved for the procurement of arms upon their resumption of office.

Ambassador Buratai made the clarification, in a statement signed by his lawyer, Osuagwu Ugochukwu.

However, moments later, the NSA countered the document, announcing that he become misquoted by means of the media.

The former provider chief has now stated people with questions should channel their queries to the Ministry of Defence for information on how finances intended for arms were spent.

The declaration reads: “My interest has been interested in an interview granted BBC with the aid of National Security Adviser (NSA), Rtd Major General Babagana Monguno, wherein he changed into presupposed to have accused former service chiefs of filtering palms fund away.

“I can confirm that Lt. General Buratai and different ex-service chiefs were in no way noted within the interview and neither turned into any arms fund lacking beneath the stewardship of Lt. Gen T.Y. Buratai.

“Interestingly, NSA Babagana Monguno has denied making such accusations. We, consequently, urge members of the general public to discountenance this type of misquoted narrative suggesting sleaze at the integrity of Rtd Lt Gen T.Y. Buratai.

“Anyone interested by knowing how hands had been procured by means of the ex-provider chiefs and in particular Lt Gen T.Y. Buratai must channel such request for information to the Ministry of Defence.”
