Cardi B has promised to cover the funeral expenses for all 17 persons died in a fire in a New York City high-rise. Mayor Eric Adams of New York City revealed on Wednesday that the Grammy-winning artist had donated financial assistance to victims of the Bronx fire, where she grew up.
Several of the victims had ties to Gambia, and their families planned to bury them in their West African birthplace. According to the mayor's office, Cardi B has agreed to cover the costs of repatriation for the victims who will be buried in Gambia.
"I'm really happy to be a Bronx native, and I still have a lot of family and friends who live and work there." As a result, when “I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal. I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.”
The fire, which was New York City’s deadliest in three decades, was sparked by a faulty space heater, according to authorities.
