Two earthquakes struck Badghis province, killing at least 26 people, including five women, according to local Taliban officials. Only 15 people were slain in the village of Badruk in Qades district, according to Baz Mohammad Sarwari, the Taliban's cultural director in Badghis, who spoke to the daily Al-Itteha Rooz.
The earthquake today hit Afghanistan's western provinces and Iran's eastern territories. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake had a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located below Badghis' Qades district.
The quake, according to Taliban cultural officials in Badghis, has resulted in massive financial losses for the people, and they are attempting to assist.
According to Baz Mohammad Sarwari, a considerable number of residences in the city and regions of Qala-e-Naw have been destroyed.
