Warri Wolves coach reveals reason for missing out on NNL playoff

Warri Wolves head coach Jolomi Atune has revealed that the failure of the team to qualify for the Nigeria National League Super Eight playoff was down to poor motivation by the state government.

The Delta State Government is the financier and owner of Warri Wolves.

Warri Wolves are currently third on the Southern Conference Group B1 table with five points behind leaders FC One Rocket as they await their final league match of the season.

Atune, however, stressed that though the motivation came late, the team is reaping the dividend with the Seasiders’ impressive performance in the 2023 Federation Cup.

Warri Wolves defeated Nigeria Premier Football League side Lobi Stars 2-1 to progress to the semi-final against unbeaten Bendel Insurance.

“We didn’t get it right at the start of the 2023 Nigeria National League season because money came in late,” he told DAILY POST exclusively in Ijebu Ode.

“It really affected our plans of pushing to make it to the NNL playoff.

“But it’s better late than never as the team has done well in the Federation Cup now with the right motivation.”
