Drugs are created and consumed everyday and many people especially in Nigeria, don't know the side effects of this drugs they use. Don't get me wrong! These side effects are very normal and is not everyone that do experience this side effects. I have brought to you some of the drugs that most Nigerian use as well as their side effects.
1. Paracetamol
Paracetamol Tablet is widely used by Nigerians to get rid (reduce) of pain. That pain could be an headache, earache, body pain, cold, period pain, flu and many more. Paracetamol also can relieve fever by increasing heat loss from the body. The drug works overall in relieving pain by decreasing the activity of certain chemicals in the body to start-up pain relieving mechanisms.
Side effects
Like other drugs, paracetamol has a small number of side effects although only few people may experience them.
1. There may be an allergy reaction which can result to rash, itching or swelling.
2. If taken too much (overdose) it might result to liver and kidney damage or even more fatal cases.
3. A person might experience low blood pressure, increased heart beat and flushing (this happens most times when the drug is passed through the veins in the arm). It can also lead to blood disorder.
It always advisable to contact a doctor or pharmacist, if you develop any persistent effects that may be caused by this drug.
2. Panadol
Panadol is works five times better than paracetamol. The drug is recommended only for the treatment of painful and of the worst pains. Pains may include migraine or tension headache, any form of ache (backache, toothache and the rest), sore throat, muscle pains and many more.
Side effects
These side effects below are very rare and if you experience any unbearable pain, report to your doctor.
1. There may be bloody stools or urine.
2. Fatigue and tiredness may occur.
3. You might observe yellowing of the eyes or skin.
4. There may be rashes, hives, red spots on the skin or an itching sore throat.
5. Sores or white spots in the mouth or lips may appear.
6. Fever with or without chills may occur.
3. Skineal cream
Skineal cream is globally used as a cure for a wide of variety of skin diseases such as fungal, yeast or bacterial infection of the skin, itching, a therapy aid in hepatic coma and many others. The cream functions by stopping fungi and yeasts from reproducing by raising the fecal bile acid excretion.
Side effects
Skineal cream has few side effects which are:
1. The treated skin may experience irritation, swelling, stinging, burning, or bumps. It always advisable to report your doctor if symptoms persists.
2. In some cases there might be trouble in breathing (very rare).
4. Coartem malaria drug
Coartem malaria drug is an antimalarial drug used for treating not severe cases of malaria infection in children and adults. The drug functions by killing the malaria parasites that is inside the red blood cells. It cures the infection and also stop the return of the parasite (relapse), but it cannot prevent any form of malaria infection.
Side effects
If you notice any of these symptoms are still there, even after finishing using the drug, report to your doctor.
1. There is likely to be Headache and body pains (abdominal pain, muscle/joint pain).
2. There is a feeling of fatigue, weakness, dizziness and tiredness of the body.
3. Fever with chills may occur.
4. Frequent vomiting and nausea are likely to occur.
5. Loss of sleep and appetite is common.
5. Ampicillin
Ampicillin is used to treat a wide number of infections that are caused by bacteria. Bacterial infection may include meningitis; infections on the throat, lungs, reproductive organ and many more. It is a class of penicillin and it works by killing all form of bacterial. However the medicine doesn't work for cold, flu or any infection caused by viruses.
Side effects
If any of these effects persist or worsen, report to your doctor immediately.
1. It is often said not to used this drug if you don't have any form of bacterial infection, otherwise it may cause other infection in the future.
2. There may be Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or sores in the mouth or tongues.
Note: All these symptoms are rare and you are not likely to experience them. Just know that even though you experience them, you should not panic because it is normal.
