Frank Lampard have expresses concern on the impact of his next transfer move having already secured the signing of his most coveted summer target in Kai Havertz in addition to the plethora of other attacking acquisitions he have made this summer.
Though the defensive line has been strengthen with the present of veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell, but Frank Lampard is still looking at bringing in West Ham's Declan Rice to play as a centre-back.
However, reports via The Athletic claims Chelsea are no longer looking for a new centre-back so Lampard has apparently ditched that plan.
The 42-year-old tactician instead wants a new holding midfielder because he fears Jorginho or N'Golo Kante could leave this summer.
If Rice who is still high on the blues transfer wishlist eventually signs, he will no longer has to reverse back to centre-back position he played in while he was at Blues academy as initially planned by Lampard.
The Athletic also adds that the Chelsea are also keen on Lille's Boubakary Soumare after encouraging scouts reports on the French star last term.
Interestingly, Lille president Gerard Lopez has recently admitted that his star could leave this summer.
Lopez said: “I am going to sit down with the players and their entourages this week," he said.
"We have had some offers for Renato Sanches and Luiz Araujo, which we rejected. We need to sit down with the players and speak.
"In terms of Boubakary, as we play with two in the midfield… The door is open if he wants to leave, but for the others we will have to discuss.
It expected that the deal to bring in any of these two players would see a major departure away from Stamford Bridge.
